Mi Casa de Mariscos
Finally, Cabo San Lucas has an upscale Mexican Seafood restaurant: Mi Casa de Mariscos. Created by the folks from the off the charts successful Mi Casa restaurant, they came up with tropical hacienda with a menu that invites you to a culinary trip through the coastal dining culture of Mexico. Although their recipes follow these old traditions, their own interpretations are noticeably present in their presentations.
First of all, their fresh seafood is kept on shaved ice inside a refrigerated display case which instilled a lot of confidence in us to order raw or barely touched seafood appetizers! Their "Becero" (the calf) is the most unique seafood *censored*tail we have tried to date: the chopped juicy mix of scallops, shrimp, fish and clams is infused with a beef broth, which creates an incredible taste balance that eliminates the "fishiness" part of the ingredients. From their tortilla station, which brings you piping hot fresh tortillas throughout your meal, you can order from a huge selection of traditional mouthwatering Mexican appetizers. We loved the smoked marlin tostadas. As a main dish we had the marinated red snapper a la talla, which is finished on a mesquite fired grill that sears those powerful flavors of the marinade that is so popular on the beaches of Acapulco. It was the best tasting butter-flied red snapper we ever had: bursting with flavors yet so soft and delicate in texture. Their special shrimp steak was out of this world delicious: big shrimp braided with bacon like a filet mignon, grilled over wood coals and served with a moderately spicy Devil's sauce that rocks your palate. A true gem of a dish!
The mixed seafood platter is exceptional: you can pick out your fresh seafood items from the ice display and they grill it for you any way you like.
The restaurant has one of the best settings in the Baja: a beautiful hacienda building in the middle of town with a two story column lined inner courtyard that is truly spectacular. The decoration features old doors and windows, antique wood canoes, colonial paintings that transport you to a time gone by. Huge corner fireplaces not only warm you in the sometimes chilly January-February evenings, but also add a very cozy and romantic touch to the ambiance. The live music contributes to round out this memorable setting.
If tasty seafood and Mexican flavors are on your mind- you can't miss to pay the folks of Mi Casa de Mariscos a visit. Prices are on the moderate side.
